Best Vermont Campground: Ultimate Getaway.

Hey there camp life friends! I’m beyond excited to spill the beans about a hidden gem nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Vermont – none other than the enchanting Apple Island RV Resort. Tucked away on the shores of Lake Champlain, this resort is a haven for those seeking a perfect blend of tranquility, outdoor adventure, and new favorite Vermont campground.

To say Apple Island RV Resort is special to me would be an understatement. My husband and I have camped here three times and even got engaged here! More on that later. This Vermont campground is truly idyllic, surrounded on two sides by Lake Champlain and a beautiful mountain range. There are many local haunts in the South Hero area and it’s also a short 20 minute drive to downtown Burlington. This location is unmatched! Read on to see why you should book a site here asap.

The Campground

Imagine waking up to a panoramic view of sparkling Lake Champlain, still holding on to the colors of the morning sunset. Each day at Apple Island Resort is a breath of fresh air. You can feel the beauty of the surrounding nature healing your soul and taking all your stress away.

To get to the campground you drive along a highway that goes straight across Lake Champlain. The lake views surround you in welcome as you make your way to Apple Island Resort. There are viewing areas and small public beaches you can stop at along the road to take in the full effect!

There are a few different sections to the campground. When you first pull in you will come into the main area of the campground. This is where we have camped and is for shorter term stays. These sites book at a bit of a premium but are well worth it for the lake views!

As you move further into this Vermont campground you go up a small hill to the back section. Here you will find other short term campsites. If you plan to stay for a few weeks this is a great area because it’s a little less expensive and can save you some money!

In the back part of the campground there are also seasonal sites. Many of these are small cottages and prefab houses that you can purchase and live in seasonally. It is an adorable neighborhood type setting and fun to walk through to see all the different types of small houses.

The Campsites

You can head to Apple Island’s website and use their campground map. It lets you plug in your RV’s length and slide information and it will show you which sites you can book. There really are no bad sites here. On one of the lake facing sides the land is actually tiered. So the sites closest to the water don’t actually block the view of those farther away.

From our experience the best sites are “Lakeview Circle” but the end sites on “Mansfield Ave” are great too. These are either really close to the water, or more private since they are on the ends of a row. There are a mix of pull through and back in sites, depending on where the site is.

All of the sites are level and paved which makes for a clean campsite! You’ll have full hook ups, a fire pit, and a picnic table all your own. Campground staff comes around each morning to pick up your trash which is so convenient! Despite the remote location, we have never had an issue with Wifi or cell connectivity here.

Amenities

Apple Island RV resort has no shortage of amenities! The campground organizes daily activities throughout the Vermont camping season. From bingo to yoga, and even music and painting there is always something going on in their community center. There is also a heated pool and jacuzzi that is open to campers in the summer months.

– The General Store

The general store at Apple Island is your one stop shop for anything you may have forgotten! I am guilty of packing in a hurry and realizing I didn’t bring essentials like mustard for campfire hot dogs. The store has grocery staples and even a corner of camping items like small replacement parts or table cloths. Don’t forget your cozy Vermont sweatshirts and sweatpants too.

What I love most about the store is their selection of local items. They are sure to stock things like seasonings, jams and even alcohol from local vendors. There’s nothing better than getting to try a new type of beer or local wine while relaxing at the campsite. They sell both room temperature and cold beer and wine so you can get straight to enjoying it.

Last but certainly not least the general store has a deli! Stop in for one of their fresh made sandwiches or a breakfast sandwich. They also offer a selection of pastries from a local bakery. When you check in for your stay you will get a coupon for a free coffee. We usually save this for the morning we are checking out so we can have a coffee for the road without dirtying any dishes.

– The Facilities

There is a well maintained bath house right in the middle of the the campground. There are separate sides for men and women. Both have bathrooms and shower facilities. They are incredibly clean and a great alternative to using your RV tanks.

Camping with kids? There is plenty for them to do here! Apple Island RV Resort has a great playground for kids. There is also a pool for summer fun! Rounding out this area is a jacuzzi to relax in on crisp Vermont nights.

– The Lookout

If you’re looking for a short walk or place to take your dog do not miss the lookout! Not even ten minutes up a short trail awaits a breathtaking vista. There are Adirondack chairs set up looking out at Lake Champlain for your viewing pleasure. I mentioned earlier that my husband and I got engaged at Apple Island, this is where it happened! I can’t image a more beautiful spot to say “yes”.

– The Golf Course

If you’re anything like my husband the thought of combing golf and camping is a dream. Well, that dream comes true at Apple Island RV Resort in Vermont! The golf course is a crown jewel for both seasoned golfers and those seeking a leisurely round amidst stunning natural beauty. The par 3, 9 hole course is open to campers and the perfect way to spend a day of your trip. Their clubhouse has golf equipment, beverages, and you can even get sandwich deliveries from the General Store.
